July 30th, 2012 | Comments Off on Rumple’s best friend visits for a few days

Our good friends Brandon & Agnes blasted off to Hawaii for a week, so we got to look after their amazingly sweet Pitbull, Jasper.  Rumple and Jasper truly are best friends.

Yet another run up the S. Ridge.  This time I noticed this awesome flower growing out of the side of the rock.

Our good friends Santa & Abby hooked Ellen up with a new sweet mountain bike.  One problem – Ellen doesn’t know how to ride a mountain bike.

July 25th, 2012 | Comments Off on Ellen in Calgary

Ellen headed to Calgary for 10 days to visit family and friends and get some climbing in back in the homeland.  She headed to Yamnuska with Raphael, saw Elke and the boys, did a great hike with Elke and Cedar in Canmore, saw her friends Cathy & Bruce and their new pup, and got some good sport climbing in at Acephale.  Such is the good life.

July 17th, 2012 | Comments Off on Dog Lake

It’s stinking hot in SLC so Rumple and I have been heading up to Dog Lake in Mill Creek. It’s a beautiful mellow hike with a sweet lake after about 3 miles – perfect to allow the Rump to get some swimming in.  I nailed this shot, first try with my iPhone.  Love it.  And then saw these two big guys on the way out…

July 8th, 2012 | Comments Off on Deseret Peak

Seeing as I’m still injured (elbow) and can’t climb, Ellen and I headed over to hike Deseret Peak.  We’d heard it’s a pleasant hike, with no crowds and we weren’t disappointed.  Deseret peak is the tallest in the Stansbury range at just over 11,000ft.

It was great because we ended up doing a 9 mile loop instead of an out and back – which is always nice – and of course Rumple had a great time.

There is no doubt that it’s hot in SLC in the summer.  And poor Rumple does NOT like the heat.  Just like ‘ol dad.  So sometimes at lunch we head on up to this sweet swimming spot in Park City.  The Rump LOVES launching into the water.  And no – he doesn’t NEED a life jacket – he goes about 50/50 with or without the life jacket – he doesn’t mind it – and it helps him swim better…

One of the great things about working at Black Diamond is that I can bring Rumple to work each day.  I’m guessing there are upwards of 20 dogs in the building at any given time – thing is you’d never know it because they’re all so good and chill.  Here is a typical view of the scene in my department.

July 4th, 2012 | Comments Off on July 4th – Sundial Peak

With a day off mid-week to celebrate the birth of the nation in which we live, Ellen and I decided to do a combo hike/climb day.  We headed into Big Cottonwood Canyon and climbed Sundial Peak.  A pleasant 1:45min approach, to three ok pitches of climbing, then back out.  Pretty fun.

July 3rd, 2012 | Comments Off on Fire

On Tuesday afternoon I got an email from our homeowners association saying there was a wildfire down the hill (in Alpine) and headed our way.  Everyone was to get valuable items and be at the ready for an evacuation.  Luckily the wind was in our favor and the blaze was blown up the canyon instead of towards any homes.  I snapped a few shots last in the evening – the blaze, as well as just the sunset over the city.
