Thoughts & Memories of Yukon

I made this list within a few days of Yukon's death. I wanted to write down a bunch of things while they were fresh in my mind so that I would always remember Yukon, and what I would miss about him. This really is quite personal and mainly for me.

Written Feb 4th, 2006 – by Kolin & Ellen – in honor of Yukon

Yukon aways made me laugh when…
Or Yukon made me smile when…
Or I love the way Yuki use to…
Or I will miss Yuki when

∑ I will miss the Yuki use to grunt
∑ I will miss when he use to snore
∑ I love the way Yuki was so very gentle when you would give him a treat, and then say ‘ok’
∑ It would crack me up when I would be getting the boys food ready and Yuki would be jumping and spinning because he was so excited
∑ It was funny when we would put Yuki’s food down, and he would have to sit and stay – and he would start drooling – and then we would say ‘ok’
∑ I think it’s funny how Yuki just ‘learned’ how to bark to let us know he wanted inside or outside when he was over 10 years old
∑ I love when Yuki would run, his body would be kind of sideways
∑ I use to love when Yuki was tied up and someone he knew would come towards him, he would jump straight up sooo high, like he was on springs – it was amazing
∑ I use to laugh when we would pull the rope from a climb and tell Yuki ‘rope’ and he would move out of the way, but still be scared from the sound of the rope hitting the ground
∑ It always made me laugh when Yuki would be in front of us, and maybe want a boost up a short steep section of rock, then the next time he would do it all by himself
∑ I use to love when Ellis would always use Yuki as a pillow
∑ It always made me laugh when Yuki would be in MY spot in bed, and I would come in and we pretend he was asleep. I would say ‘Yuki off’ and he would just sink into a deeper fake sleep. I would need to pull him or push him out of the way so I could get into bed
∑ I will truly miss when I use to pull my sleeping bag out and he would by laying in the middle of it before I knew it, because Yuki always loved being comfortable.
∑ I will miss saying ‘Yuki – in your spot’ (meaning on the back bench seat of the van)
∑ I will miss saying ‘Yuki go pee, go pee fast’
∑ It was always unbelievable how long Yuki could go pee for after being left for a while in the house = he would run outside and pee for minutes
∑ I always use to laugh when Yuki would be going poop – and if you watched him, he would be looking at you with this ‘don’t watch me going poop look’
∑ Yuki would never go to the bathroom when he was tied up, but once you untied him, he would go find a good spot to go
∑ Yuki would never poop on the trail – he would always go off to the side
∑ I will miss when I would sleep in the van or a tent, and his head would either be on my legs or on my chest
∑ Yuki always liked being in ‘the scene’ wherever the people were – he wanted to be there.
∑ Yuki was my biggest fan when playing guitar – he would sit right down in the basement and listen to me and my friends making a racket
∑ I use to love when we would go climbing and Yuki would be leading the way on the trail, and he would wait at any fork or branch to see which way we were going
∑ I will miss saying ‘Yuki, not too much not too much” in reference to making sure he didn’t drink too much water at a time and be sick
∑ I will miss the way Yuki use to gulp down water so fast
∑ I will miss how excited Yuki would get for breakfast time and supper time, and how fast he would eat
∑ I will miss when I would hand Yuki a ‘Kong’ and he would grab it and turn really fast and trot to his bed in order to begin getting the treat out
∑ It would always crack me up when Ellis would eat all his food AROUND his Glucosamine tablet and leave it – then Yuki would promptly stroll up and lap it up with one lick
∑ I will miss brushing Yuki and always be amazed at how much fur dame off of him
∑ I always laughed when I would ask Yuki to shake a paw – and he would always just barely lift his paw up and he would pull it back when you tried to grab it – so funny – then I would say ‘other one’ and he would do the same with the other paw
∑ Yuki was always so good when walking on the leash – he could ‘heal’ really well, and would sit and stop when I stopped – he was really good, even when off the leash.
∑ Yuki would always get so excited when he saw another dog, or people for that matter – so funny
∑ I will miss laying on the living room floor and having Yuki lay right there with me
∑ I will miss laying in bed and reaching down and petting Yuki’s head
∑ It was always funny when we were getting ready to go away for the weekend that Yuki really wanted to make sure that we didn’t forget him. A few times we were getting ready and then couldn’t find Yuki – he was already in the van in his spot waiting for us.
∑ I use to love watching Yuki play in the snow – he would bury his head and drag his body along in the snow – he LOVED playing in the snow
∑ It always cracked me up how timid Yuki was near the water. He wasn’t a very strong swimmer and didn’t really like going in the water at all
∑ It was always funny when I would give Yuki a bath in the river at Rifle – he did NOT like getting baths.
∑ I use to love rubbing Yuki’s big head, his soft ears, and his wonderful pink nose
∑ I use to like giving Yuki his ‘stretches’ by lifting up his back legs and he would really stretch out
∑ I will miss Yuki’s little underbite and his funny little black lips
∑ I always loved how Yuki showed so much emotion through his amazing eyebrow control
∑ I use to love how Yuki was the ‘exctieable one’, but when I took him to work, he would just lay in one spot all day – and was so mellow
∑ I will really miss how funny it was whenYuke would howl when fire engines and ambulances and police cars would go by – he was so funny – because he was really timid about his howling abilities.
∑ It scared the shit out of me, but I will miss when he did the ‘swamp thiing’ howl in the middle of the night sitting up on the bed
