A beautiful evening, albeit a bit hot, to hike up Grandeur after work. About 10 minutes from the summit we came across a VERY good sized rattler.  Luckily Rumple had done his rattle snake awareness training last summer, and heard or saw it right before it struck at him.  He jumped up and back pretty darn fast.  We quickly turned around and made it back to the car just as it was getting dark.

Seeing as I’m still injured (elbow) and can’t climb, Ellen and I headed over to hike Deseret Peak.  We’d heard it’s a pleasant hike, with no crowds and we weren’t disappointed.  Deseret peak is the tallest in the Stansbury range at just over 11,000ft.

It was great because we ended up doing a 9 mile loop instead of an out and back – which is always nice – and of course Rumple had a great time.

Ellen was climbing in Rifle for a few weeks, I headed to Aspen to participate in a three day ‘photo camp’.  After that was over we spent a day in the area and did a great hike right at Independence Pass.  Rumple had a blast swimming in lakes at ~12,000ft.
