March 4th, 2012 | Comments Off on Bluebird day at Brighton

Last year was the record highest year for snowfall in the Wasatch.  This year was the record low.  For real.  It was brutal.  I did manage a few good days out in the hills – sometimes the great weather had to make up for the crappy snow.

Two big dumps of snow this week, so the backcountry was a bit spicy.  Ellen and I, along with Tom Nay and his friends Katie and Amy headed for a mellow day of great snow on some mellow slopes in Big Cottonwood.

November 13th, 2011 | Comments Off on First Day of the Season

It’s hard to believe Alta wasn’t open with the number of people there.  It was truly insane.  A good crew (I think our crew consisted of Adam, Ryan, Christian, Courtney, Jason, Christine, Jay, B-rad, Ari and me) met at B-rad’s for a quick breakfast and headed up – for what was the first tour for many of us – of the season.  It was full-on winter up there, blustery and windy – but a few inches of medium density snow made the turns on the way down super fun.  One lap was enough for most of us – my knee and elbow are still not 100% – so it was back home, and unloading the skis in the driveway in shorts and a sweatshirt.  Crazy Utah weather.
