Women’s long underwear??

Day 3 – still no bags – and they have no idea where they are.  I’m losing hope.  I Went into town today and bought some clothes – they had no mens long underwear so I had to go with women’s.  Perfect.  I’m still sick and getting sicker wearing women’s long underwear – but at least i’ll be in the mountains tomorrow.  Not sure when I’ll be able to update again – but stay tuned – it’s bound to get better…

Mr & Mrs Young Visit

Yes, I’m over 40 years old… and yes, I still call Mr. & Mrs. Young — “Mr. & Mrs. Young” — much to the dismay of Mr. & Mrs. Young.

Good family friends of ours, the Youngs were on a road trip and came through SLC for a quick visit.  We hadn’t seen them since our wedding over 13 years ago, and it was such a bummer that Ellen was away in Europe.  We chatted, went out for a great meal, talked photography, and even had a quick tour of Black Diamond. The Youngs are awesome and it was great to catch up – hopefully it won’t be another 13 years until we connect again.

New Website is Live

As you can probably tell, the new kolin-and-ellen.com website is live.

For a few technical reasons I had to revamp the website – Hopefully the 5 people out in the world that look at it enjoy it.  The old website and all of its content can still be found by clicking the link on the bottom of this page.

I realize that a lot of the links aren’t set up yet, things are broken and whacky – please bear with me as I try to get everything working.  Thanks.

The BD Apparel team hike Grandeur

The team of designers for Black Diamond’s new apparel line were in SLC for the week – so I took the whole crew for a morning hike up Grandeur – starting from Millcreek.   And when we arrived at the summit, there was a small note from Metcalf wishing us all a good morning – of course he had already summited from the West Face, was down and at work already.  Classic.

Ellen goes mountain BIKing

Yes, you read that right.  Ellen went mountain BIKing – yes the emphasis on BIKing (as our good friends Alex and Magali (French Canadian) say it.)

Alex and Magali are big mountain bikers.  We are not.  There was always this crazy talk about taking us mountain biking.  I had no interest and used my recent elbow surgery as an excuse, but Ellen actually had some interest and decided to give it a go.  Mag was kind enough to loan Ellen her bike, helmet, clothes, everything while Alex was her instructor and tour guide.

Let’s just say she did a great job, eating it over the bars, coming down in the dark by headlamp, and almost freezing in the cold fall evening.  But given all of that, she still had fun.

13 years

It’s hard to believe it was 13 years ago today that I suckered Ellen into saying yes.

We headed up Millcreek with our friends Alex and Magali, AND our dogs – for a fancy combo celebration – our wedding anniversary AND Rumples’ third birthday.  What a bunch of lucky pups.
