Jan 21st Rumple is famous Last year during the Outdoor Retailer show, Rumple demonstrated a new dog harness by Ruffwear. He was on the Cover of the Outdoor Daily Magazine (photo). Well this year the good folks at Ruffwear wanted Rump to model again. So he did. And this time he was on the local news (video)
Jan 16th Maple Canyon Ice Doug Heinrich, George, Logan and I decided to check out the ice conditions at Maple. We met up with Jason Stevens who was kind enough to shuttle us and our gear all the way up the road on his four wheeler. Photos from the ground suck (KP photos) but Jason set up a line and snapped some great ones (Jason's photos)
Jan 10th Teton Ice Park The day after Erik and Laura's wedding, Ellen and I decided to check out the newly opened Teton Ice Park. Though not quite Ouray, we still got enough in to get pumped before our 5 hour drive home (photos)
Jan 9th Erik & Laura's wedding

Ellen and I headed to the Grand Targhee ski resort for our good friend's, Erik & Laura's wedding. They got married at the top of the ski hill on a beautful clear day with amazing few of the entire Teton range. Before the celebration everyone skied and snowboarded. It had been a while for Ellen, but she picked it back up quickly (ellen snowboarding). Early in the afternoon it was time for the official celebration. See a short video of Laura walking/skiing down the aisle (Laura walks), and Erik and Laura getting organized (Erik & Laura). And finally, introducing the new Husband and Wife (Husband & Wife)

Everyone was snapping pictures like crazy. Here are a few (select photos)

and here are unedited 185 shots I took (all photos)

Jan 1st summary of 2009

Kolin & Ellen's archive of the website for 2009 (2009)

the year in review - early 2009 started off with lots of trips to Southern Utah, some ice climbing, lots of getting Rumple accustomed to our lifestyle, and of course remembering Ellis and Yukon. I had to have knee surgery in February which definitely put a damper on things, but we still managed some souhern Utah climbing and hanging out trips. Our friends Smooth Rick and Theresa had a great wedding in Moab, we headed back to Calgary for Ellen's parent's 40th anniversary, the annual City of Rocks trip, some climbing in Rifle, Rumple getting fixed, and I managed to hobble my way up Mt. Elbrus in Russia. I headed to San Diego a few times to go surfing, the BD band played the OR show and an American Alpine event, Ellen's sister's family came to visit, another trip to Canada for the N. Face of Temple, I flew a plane over the Wasatch, Rumple turned one, I saw some bands in SLC, Portland and Vegas, we surprised my mom in Toronto for her 70th birthday, Ellen went to the RED, Ellen and I went to China for 2 weeks to climb adn then back to the fall season of Welcome Springs and the VRG, and several Christmas gatherings at our place. Whew. Once again, we tried to pack it all in.

Kolin & Ellen's archive of the website for 2008 (2008)

the year in review - lots of snow early in 2008, the house is lonely without the boys, my shoulder still hasn't healed and I head to China for work. We do lots of hiking and standard climbing. I have a great trip to the Sierra's with Alex Honnold, the Cathedral traverse with Crouse and a great 40th birthday party. Ellen and I head to Canmore to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary and have 9 days of incredible weather and make the decision to get another pup (born on our 10 year wedding anniversary). I head to Prague for work, then a quick trip back to Calgary to see Ellen's fokds... Great fall climbing at LCC, Rumple arrives, Welcome Springs for Thanksgiving with Earl, Glenna, Howard and Kate, the boys head to Vegas and I win $500 in a poker game, we get a pool table for the house for Christmas then head to southern Utah for more climbing.

Jan 1st, 2008 summary of 2007

Kolin & Ellen's archive of the website for 2007 (2007 )

the year in review - we sadly say goodbye to the amazing Ellis at the age of over 15 1/2 years old in late February. It's brutal, losing both boys within a year. We are crushed. We try to stay busy with lots of sport and trad climbing and taking lots of photos. A trip to the Valley, some local adventure climbing out our door, an incredible trip to the Bugaboos, some mountain adventures, and extreme hiking. Kolin has shoulder surgery and is out for months while Ellen goes to Spain and keeps climing through the winter. Our first trip back to Ontario at Christmas to visit the family and meet the first Junior Powick ever, and a winter of snow to remember at our house.

Approx 100 outdoor climbing days for Kolin, over 130 for Ellen in 2007.
