Southern Utah |
Ellen, Rumple and I blast
down south for a 5 day getaway. Awesome conditions at the VRG
(photos)
- and perfect for Rumple playing in the sand (photos),
a fun New Year's Eve at Bill & Misty's (photos)
- then I'm off to Redrocks with Neal and meet up with Erik &
Laura to do Birdland (photos)
and finally hook up with Tom Nay to Sunny & Steep (photos). |

Southern Utah |
Ellen and I head to southern
Utah hoping for the VRG, but had to setlle for two days at Chuckawalla
in semi-warm sun. One day just us with our buddy Erik, and the
next hanging with Misty, Doug & Anne, John and Rose, Mike
& Michelle and a bunch of kids and dogs...Rumple had a BLAST

Vegas |
I headed to Vegas to meet
up with a few of the boys (Tom, Travis, Greg, Eric & the Hammar)
(photos).
We got blown out, literally, by the wind on Saturday (a
few photos) (wind
video); played in my first poker tournament Saturday night
- and somehow miraculously Tom & I made it to the final table
where we all decided to chop the pot, therefore each going home
with a $545 win. Hilarious. On Sunday the weather cooperated and
we climbed this really long super fun 5.6 called Solar Slab (photos) |

Southern Utah |
Ellen and I take Rumple
on his roadtrip to Southern Utah. We meet up with Howard, Kate
and Tobin, and Earl and Glenna for 4 days of perfect turkey cooking
in a pit in the ground, more turkey, great climbing, some beer
and wine drinking, more turkey, lots of playing with and hanging
out with Rumple, and all-in-all an awesome 4 day weekend (photos).
Note: more photos of just Rumple on his own page (Rumple's

Rumple arrives |
After nearly 3 years since
losing Yukon and 2 years since losing Ellis, we decide to welcome
another Lab into our home. Rumple is a "fox red" English
lab and arrived today from Minessota at 8 weeks old and 13 lbs.
Rumple will have his own web page with undoubtedly a ridiculous
amount of photos and videos. (Rumple's

Canmore |
Ellen and I blast to Canmore
to celebrate my birthday (Sep 16th) and our ten year wedding anniversary
(Sep 19th). We meet Ellen's sister's new baby "Jane
Ellen" the first day. Then it's off to Canmore for some
climbing. Though the weather was unbelievably perfect, unfortunately
conditions weren't, and I came down with a bit of something, so
we didn't end up climbing the type of stuff we were hoping too
- but we still got out every day. Sir
Douglas attempt, Kahl
Wall on Yamnuska, failed attempt on
Louie, Acephale,
Lake
Louise and Planet

Kolin's 40th Birthday Celebration |
A ton of friends show up
for my 40th Birthday Celebration at our house. Our good friend

all original tunes. It was awesome. (photos) |

Boulder |
Ellen and I head to Boulder
to hang with our friends Howard & Kate and Junior Tobin. We
did some sport climbing the first day, then climbed Le
Petit Grepon in RMNP the next, a day at the
Flat Irons, and finally my buddy Chris Archer hauled me up
the Naked
Edge. An awesome 4 day weekend. |
| August 16th |
Cathedral Traverse |
Bill Crouse, Alex Honnold
and I head out for an attempt on the Grand Traverse. We are on
schedule for Teewinot and Owen, then Crouse and I need to pull
out the rope and move at a snail's pace out of the Gunsight and
up the N.Ridge of the Grand. Alex takes off on his own and has
success, while Crouse and I have to settle for the Cathedral Traverse
(photos). |
| July 12-21st |
Sierra |
Eight days in the Sierra
with Alex Honnold, and meeting up with Jon Gleason, Jeff Maudlin,
B-rad and Katie. Unfortunately Ellen stayed back in SLC holding
down the fort. (photos) |

Mega Hike |
Ellen, Metcalf, Crouse
and I decide to punish our knees on a 11.5 hour super hike in
the Wasatch. Starting in Ferguson Canyon, up to Broad Fork Twins,
over Suprise, Dromedary, Monte Cristo and Superior (as well as
all the subsidiary peaks along the way). We're guessing 10 miles
and over 10K gain. We'll be feeling this one tomorrow for sure.

Ellen, Agnes, Metcalf,

summary of 2007 |
Kolin &
Ellen's archive of the website for 2007 (2007 )
the year in review - we
sadly say goodbye to the amazing Ellis at the age of over 15
1/2 years old in late February. It's brutal, losing both boys
within a year. We are crushed. We try to stay busy with lots
of sport and trad climbing and taking lots of photos. A trip
to the Valley, some local adventure climbing out our door, an
incredible trip to the Bugaboos, some mountain adventures, and
extreme hiking. Kolin has shoulder surgery and is out for months
while Ellen goes to Spain and keeps climing through the winter.
Our first trip back to Ontario at Christmas to visit the family
and meet the first Junior Powick ever, and a winter of snow
to remember at our house.
Approx 100 outdoor climbing
days for Kolin, over 130 for Ellen in 2007.
